“In Praise of the Unexpected Rhyme” | Songwriting Magazine Issue 30
I wrote a Technique piece called, "In Praise of the Unexpected Rhyme," for Songwriting Magazine, about how unconventional rhyming can bring additional depth, interest, texture, & surprise to a song. Featuring examples by Joni Mitchell, Aimee Mann, Leonard Cohen, Joanna Newsom, and me (re: my new single, “Well Water (feat. Shara Nova)”.

There is a connection between the strength of the voice and the details of the guitar that creates an ideal atmosphere for the words of poetry. Although the sound is stripped and minimalist, it manages to communicate with a lot of nuances. The result is a song as intense as it is emotional.
My song, “Words Fail,” from my new album, Three, was featured in Visual Atelier 8, along with the lyric video I made for the song, and a short interview.

My new album, Three, produced by Malcolm Burn, was released in December 2020. Visit the album’s page to learn more about it. You can listen to the entire album on Bandcamp, and watch/listen to all 8 lyric videos I made for the album; each song/video features one of my large scale illustrations.

Mass for the Endangered by Sarah Kirkland Snider
I wrote original text for 4 of the 6 movements of Sarah Kirkland Snider’s beautiful new album, Mass for the Endangered. I also created the cover image—a triptych of endangered animals and environments in peril. Learn more about the album—including the great reviews/coverage; the UK vocal ensemble, Gallicantus, who performed the piece; and the series of stunning videos created for each movement by Candystations—at Sarah’s site.
